There a domes visible in Kata-Tjuta because when the rock was folding and tilting cracks started appearing, after water seeped into the rocks causing over millions of years it to erode away, every grain and pebble that eroded away made valleys and gorges making the rock slabs split into blocks. Curved cracks that formed after a long time were called topographic joints that formed on the surface of the blocks. Weathering and erosion above the cracks made Kata-Tjuta to where away and form domes that we see today.
